Planning

A Strategy for the Future

The Planning Department uses the city’s vision, value, and mission statements to plan for the short and long term future of the community. The Master Land Use Plan sets the 20 year strategy for growth and development and guides decision making related to the built environment and its effect on the people who live, work, and visit the city. The Master Land Use Plan is the basis for the Zoning Ordinance which governs how land is used, as well as the form, placement, size, and spacing of buildings and other structures placed on the land.

The Planning Department staff oversee marihuana facility licenses, administer the groundwater ordinance, set the parking strategy, set addresses, sell available city property, manage the Critical Dune Ordinance, and enforce codes related to the zoning ordinance. Public boards, commissions, and committees associated with the Planning Department include the Historic District Commission, the Planning Commission, and the Zoning Board of Appeals.

We are here to help. Please contact us with questions about the historic district, city lots for sale, signs, decks, fences, driveways, city plans, zoning, marihuana facilities, and vacant building registration.
