The Muskegon Police Department offers a Citizen’s Academy each year. This program is hands-on and intended to provide citizens 17 years of age and older with a better understanding of the functions of law enforcement. It also aims to dispel misconceptions and increase positive communication between citizens and police. Topics include 911/dispatch, traffic stops, investigations, evidence gathering, less than lethal force, neighborhood policing, a mock crime scene, jail tour, and much more.
The academy is held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for ten weeks.
The program is free, but space is limited. Anyone interested must submit an application and agree to a background check to be considered for acceptance to the academy.
