Youth Academy

Muskegon Public Safety offers the Muskegon Public Safety Youth Academy each summer. This program is hands-on and intended for any student aged 12-16 that is interested in potentially becoming a police officer or firefighter or who would like to learn more about the criminal justice system. Topics include emergency vehicles, firefighting, traffic stops, evidence collections, fire and police tools, mock crime scenes, courts, and community service.

The academy is four full days and runs from 9:00am – 4:00pm each day. Students have an opportunity to interact and be trained by actual public safety personnel.

The program is free, but space is limited. All youth must submit an application and participate in an interview in order to be considered for acceptance to the academy. Preference is given to those living or attending school in the City of Muskegon; however, others are considered in the order their application was received and as space allows.
