NEW BUSINESS

Case 2014-21 1693 Jefferson Street. Applicant: John Thompson. District: Jefferson. Current
Function: Residential. M. Franzak presented the staff report. The applicant is seeking approval
to replace the wood garage door with a steel door. The door being replaced was installed in the
1960’s and is not original. A photo of the original doors to the carriage house were provided.
The new door mimics the look of the original doors, although the new door opens overhead
rather than sideways. The new door had been installed by the homeowner without HDC
approval.

K. Panozzo pointed out that the windows in the new door were not the same configuration as the
original door, and asked why J. Thompson chose a steel door over wood. Mr. Thompson stated
that the window configuration of the new door was as close as they could get to the original, and
they chose the steel door because a wood door was cost-prohibitive, priced at over $10,000.

L. Spataro arrived at 4:07 p.m.

A motion that the HDC approve the request for the new garage door as proposed as long all
zoning requirements are met and the necessary permits are obtained, was made by S. Kroes,
supported by L. Wood and approved, with K. Panozzo voting nay. The board reminded Mr.
Thompson to get the required HDC approval before starting projects in the future.
