MUSKEGON BOARD OF CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSIONERS
Regular Meeting Minutes
Monday, July 8, 2019

I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Lawrence Spataro at 4:01PM.
Also present: Commissioner Johnny Brown, Kristen N. Wade, Civil Service
Director, Dwana Thompson, EEO & Employee Relations Director, and Lisa
Vanderlaan, Departmental Clerk.
II. MINUTES
Motion was made by Commissioner Brown and seconded by
Commissioner Spataro to approve the regular minutes of the June 10,
2019 meeting.
Motion Carried.
III. ACTION AGENDA
A. Revised Employee Tuition Reimbursement form. A revised version of the
Employee Tuition Reimbursement form was presented to the commissioners for
approval. Kristen N. Wade suggested if the current policy could reflect that any
Employee Tuition Reimbursement appeals be brought in front of the Civil Service
board. Dwana Thompson will make the revision to the policy to reflect the appeal
process.
Motion was made by Commissioner Spataro and seconded by
Commissioner Brown to approve the Revised Employee Tuition
Reimbursement form.
Motion Carried.
B. Employee Tuition Reimbursement form. Michael Hewartson submitted an
Employee Tuition Reimbursement form.
Motion was made by Commissioner Spataro and seconded by
Commissioner Brown to approve the Employee Tuition Reimbursement
form for Michael Hewartson.
Motion Carried.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
Commissioner Brown inquired about the suggested meeting time change from
the June 10th meeting. Kristen explained that an employee requested that the
Civil Service meetings be changed to 5pm so that City employees could attend if
they did choose to. Kristen also suggested that possibly a Survey Monkey could
be sent out to City employees to inquire on how many employees would be
interested in attending Civil Service meetings.
