MDOT staff will provide information on project details\, traffic maintenance and scheduling. The public is invited to stop by any time during the meeting to learn more about the project and provide comments. \nWho: \n\nCommunity stakeholders\nCity representatives\nLocal businesses\nInterested residents\nMDOT staff\n\nAccessibility: \nAttendees who require mobility\, visual\, hearing\, written\, or other assistance for effective participation should contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov\, preferably at least five business days prior to the scheduled meeting. Forms are located on the Title VI webpage. Requests made after this timeframe will be evaluated and honored to the extent possible. \nProject information: \nThis year\, MDOT will rebuild more than 2 miles of M-46 from Muskegon Avenue to Home Street. Work includes asphalt surfacing\, lane reconfiguration\, new storm sewer\, new concrete curb and gutter\, concrete sidewalks\, new sanitary sewer\, and a new water main. The project will implement traffic calming measures to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians\, including a four- to three-lane conversion with a dedicated left-turn lane. \nThe City of Muskegon has partnered with MDOT to create a website to provide more information regarding the project.

This is an open house format and no formal presentation will be provided. \nWho should attend? – Community stakeholders\, local businesses\, interested residents\, and City of Muskegon staff. \nWhen is the meeting? – Tuesday\, January 13\, 2026\, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. \nWhere is the meeting? – City of Muskegon\, City Hall lobby: 933 Terrace St.\, Muskegon\, MI 49440. \nWhat is the project? – Bridge removal project. Built between 1926 and 1932\, this bridge is a good example of a concrete-encased\, multi-beam steel stringer bridge with a high level of historic integrity and is therefore eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic places. \nWhy is public comment so important? – MDOT and the City of Muskegon are seeking public feedback to help recognize and address any concerns that may result from the removal of this National Register of Historic places eligible bridge and the minor\, or de minimis\, use of the Richards Charter Park. Anyone interested must submit an application and agree to a background check to be considered for acceptance to the workshop. Applications must be submitted by October 29.
