Housing Board of Appeals

The Housing Board of Appeals (HBA) is made up of seven board members who are volunteer residents appointed by the City Commission. The HBA meets monthly to recommend solutions for the City of Muskegon’s dangerous buildings and public nuisance properties. These properties are deemed dangerous or a public nuisance by the Building & Inspections Services Department. The owners of said properties are then notified and can apply for permits if restoration is possible or may have to demolish the structure(s) if restoration is not possible. The HBA hears cases at the monthly meetings from both the owner and Building & Inspections Services Department perspectives to determine if the property should be declared for demolition if action has not been taken by the owner within a certain period of time. The HBA serves as a means to beautify and keep the City of Muskegon safely progressing forward.

Meeting Schedule

First Thursday of each month at 5:30pm – Muskegon City Hall, 933 Terrace St., Muskegon, MI 49440 in the Commission Chambers 107.
