Destinee Keener is a Ward III Commissioner for the City of Muskegon.
Destinee Keener-Sargent is born and bred from the City of Muskegon. She was raised by a single grandmother who was a foster and adoptive parent to numerous children and worked for the Urban League. With such parenting, Destinee grew up in the Urban League offices. Having this nontraditional upbringing bolstered an awareness of the needs of people of color in her community. She has a fiery passion for bringing attention to areas lacking in diversity, equity, and inclusion within her community. She is not shy to public speaking and vocalizes the necessity of equal access and policy change often. Destinee and her spouse have a passion for giving and do so through time, talent, and treasure most often privately to numerous nonprofits and programs throughout the community.
Holding a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with an emphasis on Nonprofit, Destinee has a robust history of servant leadership within numerous capacities that she has held throughout the City of Muskegon. Such positions include Executive Director of Family Promise where she recruited over 35 congregations and over 1800 volunteers before transitioning. Destinee served the senior population at Senior Resources for a number of years before transitioning to Kids’ Food Basket where she served as their Program Manager. After losing her job, with a leap of faith and encouragement from her community, Destinee and her spouse built their own business, “Kuntry Cookin’” which has become a reputable catering and food service business in the City of Muskegon.
In addition to operating Kuntry Cookin’, Destinee is a mother to 5 (Jaise (23), Jarrean (22) Braxton (20) Keir (12), and Ahhna (Destinee’s 8 year old niece). She is a PURE Michigan girl that loves everything Michigan has to offer year-round from snowmobiling to swimming. Destinee loves to travel OFTEN with her best friend and spouse Kemmie. Destinee’s motto is Live.Love.Laugh because life is too grand for anything else!
