Peter Wills is the Director of Government Relations and Strategic Operations for the City of Muskegon. With 25 years of government experience at the local and state level, Peter serves as a strategic advisor to the City Manager and executive leadership personnel. Since joining the City in 2019, his responsibilities have included coordinating state/federal advocacy efforts, executing project management, strategic planning, and implementation support of administrative initiatives critical to the organization’s operational and functional efficiency. Peter helps to lead the day-to-day activities and strategies of all communications, marketing and community engagement initiatives. He also develops, monitors and executes state and federal public policy priorities and serves as the primary liaison to state and federal legislative bodies and executive agencies.
Prior to this role, he served in the Michigan Legislature for 20 years, including 14 as the Chief of Staff to former state Senator Goeff Hansen who represented Muskegon County.
He is a graduate of Michigan State University and holds a Master of Public Administration from Western Michigan University.
