About Property Taxes

Property taxes in the City of Muskegon, Michigan are levied twice each year under Michigan law as follows:

Summer property taxes are levied with bills issued July 1 and are due by September 14. Interest is added after the due date at 1% per month, plus a 3% penalty if not paid by February 14.

Winter property taxes are levied with bills issued December 1 and are due by February 14. A penalty of 3% is added after the due date.

Please note that property taxes not paid by the due dates are subject to penalty and interest. Any property taxes not collected by the City as of February 28 are turned over to the County Treasurer as delinquent on March 1 and are then collected by the County Treasurer.
