Apple Ave Corridor Improvement Plan Review

July 18 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

The Planning Department is working to design an Apple Ave Corridor Improvement Plan. Come to the open house style event on Thursday, July 18th from 4:30 P – 6:30 P at Robert C Lighton Park (965 Terrace St) with City Hall as a backup for weather. You can expect to see drafted maps and ideas for the plan and give feedback.

What is a corridor improvement plan? A corridor improvement plan is a program that helps communities plan for and fund improvements to commercial corridors outside of their main commercial areas. The plans can cover a defined period of time, usually between 20-30 years, and may include activities such as tax increment financing (TIF).

APPLE AVENUE CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENT PLAN OBJECTIVES

  • Improve the transition between commercial and residential areas.
  • Improve the public realm along the corridor with sidewalks that link adjacent neighborhoods to the corridor and that are unobstructed, wide enough for a variety of users, and buffered from the street.
  • Improve aesthetics, including consideration of streetscape changes, signage, and lighting that supports an integrated identity for the corridor and provides increased safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers.
  • Improve vacant and/or underutilized land along the corridor.
  • Address access between roadways and private property, including alley improvements and a better approach to access management.
  • Conservation and possible installation of new public art along the corridor.
  • Streetscapes include amenities for visual interest and safety, including seating, pocket parks, trees, and green buffers.
