Hay Bale Decorating Competition

The Downtown Development Authority and the City of Muskegon are hosting a Hay Bale Decorating Competition among 24 businesses and city departments. This free month-long event invites downtown visitors to vote for their favorite hay bale. The decorators get to showcase their creativity by transforming plain hay bales into art. Voting will begin at the 2023 Harvest Fest on September 30th and continue through October 31st. Downtown visitors will be encouraged to vote for their favorite bale online using this page. The winner receives bragging rights and a trophy.
This is the first year of bringing many hay bales to Western Ave. The Downtown Development Authority purchased 24 hay bales. The hay bales were available on a first come, first serve basis online to city departments and downtown businesses. The goal is to create a family-friendly and inclusive environment for all and to draw visitors downtown.
