A goal of the City Commission is to increase community connection by working to create a culture of mutual respect and trust between city personnel and the neighbors who are provided with city services. Over the past year as the city began creating new communication policies, launching new communication tools (such as community newsletters), and developing content for media outlets, a lack of consistent branding became apparent.

Why does the City of Muskegon need a rebrand? The City of Muskegon has never had a brand. The City has over 20 variations of logos and graphics that are used without guidance or consistency. This confuses residents. No brand guidelines, brand story, or brand kit exist.

One of the most important things the city can do to build trust is to be consistent. This means being consistent with our values, messaging, visuals, and overall identity.

The Watch mUSkeGOn logo was created for the entirety of Muskegon County. We are not replacing that logo, but rather defining how we, the city, can use it alongside our partners throughout the county.

A local City of Muskegon marketing firm (with local graphic artists) was selected through the RFP process and approved by the commission in October 2023. Since then, the Community Engagement team and the marketing firm, Kindred Marketing Agency, have been meeting with stakeholders around the community to gather input. This is one of several meetings. Please note that this meeting is intentionally scheduled during business hours we will be having more after-hours.
