March 2026 — Andrea

This month, we’re spotlighting Andrea, a Parking Enforcement Officer within the city’s Police Department. While her role is often associated with citations, Andrea approaches her work with a focus on community care and safety, ensuring our streets remain accessible and neighborhoods stay beautiful for everyone who lives and works here.

In her two years with the city, Andrea has become a vital link between public safety and the community. Her primary goal isn’t just enforcement; it’s education. She often prioritizes giving out warnings or speaking with residents before issuing a citation, taking the time to explain local ordinances and why they matter. By educating the public on why certain areas must remain clear, she helps prevent future violations and fosters a more informed, cooperative neighborhood environment.

As a Parking Enforcement Officer, Andrea is responsible for enforcing laws and ordinances that keep Muskegon moving. This includes monitoring for violations like No-Parking zones, fire lanes, hydrants, permit parking, and handicap spots. She also plays a key role in identifying junk vehicles across the city. By addressing abandoned or inoperable vehicles, she helps maintain the health and aesthetics of our neighborhoods while preventing potential safety hazards.

Andrea’s work behind the scenes is what keeps the city’s “circulatory system” moving. By addressing vehicles blocking fire lanes or intersections, she ensures that emergency responders can reach their destinations without delay. Her role becomes especially critical during our Michigan winters; by enforcing winter parking regulations, she ensures that snowplows have the space they need to clear the roads effectively, keeping the streets safe and passable for all drivers.

Andrea’s commitment to service is deeply personal. With a background as a former firefighter and her current work as a part-time EMT, her career has always been defined by protecting others. Transitioning into parking enforcement allowed her to stay on the front lines of public safety in a proactive, everyday way. She understands that while a warning or a ticket might be frustrating, the ultimate goal is a city that is orderly, safe, and prepared for any emergency.

When she isn’t on duty, Andrea stays active and enjoys the simple pleasures of the outdoors. Whether she’s camping, hiking with her dog, Bruno, or spending a quiet afternoon working on her lawn, she carries that same pride for her community into her personal life.
