Learn about the City of Muskegon’s new Parks & Recreation Director

February 27, 2023

Name: Kyle Karczewski
Position: Parks & Recreation Director
Department: Department of Public Works

Employee Bio: Kyle started his recreation career in high school where he received his first job as a summer camp counselor and continued in the field through college. Since graduating from Central Michigan University with a focus on Recreation Management, Kyle has been the Director of a YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs and held various supervisory roles within Parks & Recreation Departments. He also has a full-time job planning activities at home as the father to 3 young kids (4-months, 2 & 5 years old). Some of his hobbies include mountain biking, fishing, camping and playing basketball.

Priorities: To engage the community and learn their needs and wants for the direction of our department. There are many programs I am excited to start up, but it’s important to provide the programs that our residents want to see. The first step to achieve this will be to re-establish the citizens advisory board for our Parks & Recreation Department.

Community Impact: Effective Parks & Recreation Departments improve the physical and mental health of the residents in the community. Through improving parks and providing new recreational opportunities, I hope to enhance the quality of life for our residents and help provide a sense of community for the City of Muskegon.
