2025 Peace Officer of the Year Awarded to three MPD Officers
February 25, 2026
The Muskegon Police Department is proud to share that Sgt. Bofysil, Officer Pearce, and Officer Herzhaft have been honored with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) State of Michigan Lodge’s 2025 Peace Officer of the Year Award. The award was presented by the Michigan FOP President in recognition of their courage, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to protecting the Muskegon community.
The officers were recognized for their coordinated and professional response to a critical incident involving an armed suspect. Working together, they safely evacuated nearby residents, established a secure perimeter, and made repeated efforts to de-escalate the situation and gain voluntary compliance from a knife-wielding individual. When the suspect escalated the encounter and attacked a female victim, the officers acted swiftly and decisively to stop the threat and protect life.
This recognition reflects not only the bravery of these officers, but also the Muskegon Police Department’s continued commitment to professionalism, training, and the safety of our community.
