Press Release | City of Muskegon and City Wise Launch New Rental Housing Website
September 4, 2025
New platform helps Muskegon renters more easily find available housing options
Muskegon, MI — The City of Muskegon has partnered with City Wise Software to launch a new rental housing website designed to make it easier for residents, especially middle- and low-income renters, to find available places to live. The platform brings together listings from local landlords across Muskegon, offering a centralized, accessible way to search for housing.
The site is now live and will feature regularly updated listings submitted directly by landlords.
“For years, we’ve been committed to finding innovative solutions that expand access to affordable housing in our city,” said Jake Eckholm, Director of Development Services for the City of Muskegon. “This new tool represents another important step forward— making it easier for individuals and families to find a place they can truly call home.”
The Muskegon rental website is designed with community needs in mind. The platform aims to increase visibility for available rental housing in Muskegon, including listings from small and mid-sized landlords who may not typically advertise on national websites.
The City Wise team will begin outreach to landlords as early as this week, inviting property owners to participate in the program. Landlords interested in listing their available apartments are encouraged to complete the online form now to begin the process and ensure early access to tenant placement services.
Key features of the platform include:
- Listings from local landlords of all sizes
- User-friendly design that works on both mobile and desktop
- Focus on housing access for middle- and low-income renters
The platform was developed by City Wise Software, a Midwest-based company founded by the team behind College Pads, a national student housing platform used at more than 150 universities. While City Wise has partnered with cities across Wisconsin to modernize local housing tools, Muskegon is the company’s first Michigan partner, demonstrating the city’s proactive approach to improving housing access and embracing innovative, community-centered solutions.
“We believe every renter deserves a clear, accessible way to find housing,” said Jeremy Schmidt, chief operating officer at City Wise. “This platform helps remove some of the barriers renters face—especially in tight or confusing markets—by creating a straightforward path to available homes.”
