December 2025 — Kimberly Young
This month, we’re spotlighting Kim Young, Executive Assistant to the City Manager. Kim has spent nearly 30 years serving the Muskegon area and has been making a direct impact at the City of Muskegon since 2015.

Kim plays a key role in keeping city operations running smoothly. She provides broad administrative and organizational support to City leadership, helping prepare official documents, manage schedules and meetings, and keep important information flowing where it needs to go. She also helps coordinate citywide meetings, events, and projects, working with departments to make sure things stay on track. Behind the scenes, Kim supports many of the day-to-day processes that keep the City moving, everything from routine administrative tasks to assisting with employee-focused activities.

When asked what she enjoys most about the work, Kim says it’s the opportunity to connect people with the resources they need and support the team that drives the City’s goals forward. “I love that every day I get to help both the public and my coworkers,” she shares.

Kim’s path to this role started with her determination to build a solid career while raising her son on her own. She began working for Muskegon County in 1998 while earning a degree in business. Her time in the Circuit Court Records Office sparked her interest in helping people and keeping complex processes organized. From there, she expanded her experience in elections, vital records, and jury services—eventually becoming the Elections Coordinator and working closely with clerks throughout the county.

That work eventually brought her to the City of Muskegon in 2015, where she spent nearly a decade in the City Clerk’s Office supporting elections, records management, and major community events. When the chance came to join the City Manager’s Office, Kim stepped into a role that blended her administrative experience with her passion for public service.
